In olden days, we could have said "his" full potential, since "he" was a gender neutral pronoun meaning any person. It's kinda like dog in the sentence, "A dog ran across the yard." That sentence is fine even if the dog was a bitch. English has a pronoun for something that is neither male nor female. That word is IT.
